Our Story
Sigma Chi is a literary Fraternity founded in 1855 at the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio. The fraternity was founded by seven men that were unhappy with the organizations they were surrounded by. The founding was based on principle as all seven men believed that merit was paramount to anything else when making decisions. All of the seven founders were varying in ages, focuses of study, and backgrounds. They believed that different temperaments, talents, and convictions among men would lead to greater friendships due to the nature of challenging each other to always be at their best.
Sigma Chi is one of the nation’s largest national fraternities and annually hosts multiple conventions and meetings to gather brothers from all parts of the country to allow friendships to grow and all the men to learn more about the organization they are a part of. Sigma Chi strives to be the leading Greek Organization on campus. Guided by our 7 virtues, founders, and standards. We are men of different temperaments, talents, and convictions and are joined together by the sacred ties of friendship and love for each other with an aim to become Leaders of Men. Sigma Chi has been present at LMU since 1991 and we have rich tradition at this university, and of course a strong national presence.
The Iota Omega chapter of Sigma Chi was founded at Loyola Marymount University in 1991 and has continued to educate and inspire many men. The men of the Iota Omega chapter routinely hold many leadership roles on campus and are active in the surrounding community. The Iota Omega chapter prides itself on its community involvement and betterment.
“Men join Fraternities, leaders of men join Sigma Chi.”- John Wayne (USC ’29)
